The work in Brazil is led by Marcos and Suely Inhauser, graduates of Bethany Theological Seminary, who had a passion to take their new-found denomination back to their homeland. Marcos characterizes the Brazilian church as “Anabaptist in theology with a Brazilian spicy flavoring.” A strong sense of community has emerged as persons engage each other’s lives and also reflect on God’s Word together. Regular training events for pastors and lay leaders have been important for nurturing community and to strength and clarify Brethren identity and values. Additionally, the church holds an annual conference to enact business and worship together. As a new mission initiative, the ministry is funded by contributions to the Emerging Global Mission Fund. 1988-1993: A new church venture, under Brazilian Onaldo Peirera, thrived then floundered in Rio Verde. March 2001: The General Board approves a new mission venture in Brazil. May 2001: A new group, led by Marcos Inhauser, holds its first worship service in Brazil with 34 attending. December 2001: The first US delegation visits the new church. The first conference of Igreja da Irnandade takes place, and the first baptism in the new church occurs there. March 2002: Four local leaders of Igreja da Irnandade are licensed to the ministry. October 2003-March 2006: Greg and Karin Davidson Laszakovits work as US representatives to the Brazilian church. January 2007: Athena Gibble, Rio Verde, and Katie O’Donell, Campinas, join the team, implementing community outreach program to children, including crafts, school tutoring, and music.
