HIKING THE ROCKIES

The hikes in the Rocky Mountains were among the most popular recreation options at National Youth Conference 2006. Buses loaded each afternoon from Monday, July 24, through Wednesday, July 26, from the parking lot at Colorado State University, to head up the canyon into the high mountains.

Youth and advisors were offered the choice of various levels of difficulty, so that everyone could participate. Depending on their individual temperaments, hikers enjoyed an energetic walk, or a contemplative stroll, the scent of pine, the sound of the wind in the trees, the companionship of friends along the trail, and the incredible mountain vistas. -- Photos by Chris Detrick

Linda and Royce from Virginia strolled through a rocky hillside on their hike.

Jackie from Maryland (above) led the pack on one of the hiking trips in the Rocky Mountains.

Even photographer Chris Detrick was awed by the majesty of the Rockies!
