Moderator tours Nigerian church
Annual Conference moderator Belita Mitchell, pastor of First Church of the Brethren in Harrisburg, Pa., toured Nigeria Feb 26-March 9. With her husband, Don Mitchell, and Merv Keeney, executive director of the board’s Global Mission Partnerships, she visited numerous sites of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN--the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria). EYN leaders Filibus Gwama, president, and Y.Y. Balami, general secretary, accompanied the group, as did David Whitten, the board’s Nigeria mission coordinator. Shown here meeting at EYN Headquarters with Filibus Gwama, Belita Mitchell is the first African-American woman to serve as moderator of Annual Conference.
